Modelling the TeV γ - ray spectra of two low redshift AGNs

چکیده
We discuss the results of modelling the TeV γ-ray spectra of two AGNs, Mkn 501 and Mkn 421 that have almost the same redshifts: z = 0.031 and z = 0.034, respectively. The effect of intergalactic γ-ray absorption is treated as an uncertainty in the measurement of the intrinsic spectrum. Although the objects differ, we obtain satisfactory fits for both of them in a synchrotron self-Compton scenario. Compared to previous models, our fits are characterised by higher values of the Doppler factor (δ ≥ 50) and an electron injection spectrum extending to higher energies (γ max ≥ 1.5 × 10 5). In the case of Mkn 421, the observed difference in spectral slope in X-rays and TeV γ-rays between the high and low states can be explained as a variation of a single parameter — the maximum energy γ max mc 2 at which electrons are injected.

The Chandra Deep Field - North Survey . Xvi
We present X-ray spectral analyses of the three z > 4 Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) thus far spectroscopically identified in the Chandra Deep Field-North Survey, at redshifts of 5.186, 4.424, and 4.137. These analyses are made possible by the extremely deep exposure (≈ 2 Ms) and the low Chandra background. The rest-frame ≈ 2.5–40 keV spectra are the first for optically faint (two of the three s...

In mid-2009 a notable upgrade of the H.E.S.S. telescope system will take place: a new telescope with a 600 m2 mirror area and very-high-resolution camera (0.07◦) will be positioned at the centre of the present configuration, with the aim of lowering the threshold and enhance its sensitivity in the 100 GeV to several TeV energy range. HESS-II will permit the investigation of the lower energy γ-r...

Recent observations of the TeV γ-ray spectra of the two closest active galactic nuclei (AGNs), Markarian 501 (Mrk 501) and Markarian 421 (Mrk 421), by the Whipple and HEGRA collaborations have stimulated efforts to estimate or limit the spectral energy density (SED) of extragalactic background light (EBL) which causes attenuation of TeV photons via pair-production when they travel cosmological ...
متن کاملA Simple Analytic Treatment of the Intergalactic Absorption Effect in Blazar Gamma-Ray Spectra
We derive a new and user friendly simple analytic approximation for determining the effect of intergalactic absorption on the γ-ray spectra of TeV blazars the energy range 0.2 TeV < Eγ < 2 TeV and the redshift range 0.05 < z < 0.4. In these ranges, the form of the absorption coefficient τ(Eγ) is approximately logarithmic. The effect of this energy dependence is to steepen intrinsic source spect...
متن کاملIntrinsic Constraints on Very High Energy Emission in Gamma-ray Loud Blazars
Photons with very high energy up to TeV (VHE) emitted from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) provide some invaluable information of the origin of γ-ray emission. Although 66 blazars have been detected by EGRET, only three low redshift X-ray selected BL Lacs (Mrk 421, Mrk 501, and 1ES 2344+514) are conclusive TeV emitters (PKS 2155-304 is a potential TeV emitter) since VHE photons may be absorbed by...
